Heritage & Origins
When the Space Force was founded on December 20, 2019, Chief of Space Operations Gen. John W. Raymond initiated the quest for a song that captures the spirit of Guardians. Former USAF band member James Teachenor partnered with chief musician Sean Nelson to produce 'Semper Supra' (Always Above) — honoring our defenders on the high frontier of space.

Semper Supra — Latin for “Always Above” Defending freedom across the infinite domain From low Earth orbit to the lunar sphere and beyond.
Adopted in 2020 as the official motto of the USSF, signifying the branch's eternal readiness above all terrestrial combat.
